Two new restaurants are set to open in a former church building on Rochdale Road in Bury town centre.
Planning permission granted
The venues would move into 134 and 136 Rochdale Road, currently occupied by Kashmir Superstore. The shop is expected to stay open, with one restaurant taking over storage space on the first floor above it. The second would see the existing restaurant space in the adjoining building extended and reopened, according to planning documents.
Bury council officers granted planning permission, saying the scheme 'should not cause harm to the amenity of surrounding residents'. The site is part of the Rochdale Road Neighbourhood Centre, so the proposed use is supported in principle. Officers added: 'The proposal would contribute to the vitality and viability of the centre through the continued and enhanced commercial use of the premises.'
Design conditions and delivery services
The church building has been 'significantly altered by unsympathetic shop fronts and aluminium roller shutter boxes' since its conversion to commercial use. A condition requires all metalwork, including existing, to be black in colour to improve the appearance.
No details on the type of restaurants have been published, but planning documents suggest food delivery services could be included. Proposed opening hours are 11am to 11pm seven days a week, with deliveries and collections between 5pm and 10pm.
