Carrick: I've Not Considered Quitting Man United

Michael Carrick has said he has not given his own position any thought despite mounting pressure, after Manchester United suffered a 4-1 Champions League defeat to Como. The head coach also avoided a direct answer when asked whether he had considered quitting, following a performance in which he criticised the effort levels of some of his players.

United are now winless in seven games across all competitions, having won just two of their 11 matches this season. After the full-time whistle, Carrick went to apologise to the fans before turning his attention to his squad's display in the rain on the shores of Lake Como.

Carrick's Response on His Future

"Listen, I've not given my own position any thought - this is for the supporters - I was one of them watching that, and I wasn't happy at all," Carrick said.

When asked if he had considered walking away, he replied: "It's not about me right now, and my feelings in that regard. It's more as a team and as a football club, what we want to look like, what we should look like."

"And as I said, the results can come and go at times, but you've got to do it in a certain way. And that wasn't it."

Apology to Supporters

Carrick raised his palms to the roughly 100 fans who remained in the away end at full-time as a gesture of apology, and later explained why he did so.

"I have to apologise to the supporters," he said. "I went over to the end and I care about this football club as much as anyone, if not more, with the position that I'm in and what I value this football club."

"For us to play in that way, it's not acceptable. It wasn't a good performance at all."
