McDonald's UK App Launches 'Order Ahead' to Skip Queues
McDonald's UK app launches 'order ahead' feature

McDonald's Introduces Game-Changing 'Order Ahead' Feature

McDonald's is rolling out a significant upgrade to its UK mobile app, introducing a new 'order ahead' feature designed to save customers valuable time. This innovation allows diners to order and pay for their meals in advance, effectively bypassing the traditional queue. The system is cleverly designed to alert your chosen restaurant as you approach, ensuring your food is prepared fresh upon your arrival.

How the New 'Order Ahead' Service Works

To use the service, customers must first select their restaurant location within the McDonald's app. After placing an order and choosing a payment method—which must be completed through the app—you simply tap 'pay' and start your journey. The restaurant's kitchen is then notified to begin preparing your meal when you are approximately three minutes away, thanks to location tracking.

The feature supports multiple collection methods:

  • Counter pick-up
  • Click and serve
  • Table service
  • Drive-thru

There is one key exception for drive-thru users: while you can still order and pay ahead, the location tracking does not activate. Instead, you must provide your order code at the drive-thru window to initiate preparation. For click and serve or table service, you will need to enter your designated parking bay or table number into the app upon arrival.

A World of New Flavours Hits UK Menus

Coinciding with this technological leap, McDonald's has also expanded its UK menu with eight international items, offering a global taste tour. The new selections include:

  • Maple BBQ and Bacon Double Quarter Pounder from Canada
  • Pineapple McSpicy from Australia
  • Garlic and Black Pepper McNuggets from Japan
  • Sour Cream and Black Pepper McShaker Fries from Poland
  • Mac and Cheese Triangles from the United Arab Emirates
  • Choco Caramel Pie from Indonesia
  • Chocolate or Caramel Pretzel McFlurries from Malaysia

This dual launch of a convenient new ordering system and an exciting menu expansion marks a major step for the fast-food giant in enhancing the customer experience across the United Kingdom.
