Eton Place, Liverpool's longest established Turkish dining destination on Woolton Road in Childwall, has closed suddenly after 15 years of operation. The restaurant opened in March 2009 and was owned and operated by Turgut Olgun, who also runs El Pueblo Tapas and Solasta Steak House on Derby Road.
Expansion and Awards
In 2013, Olgun expanded with a sister venue, Armadillo, in Birkenhead, followed by Azure in Hoylake, but both later closed. Eton Place gained national recognition in 2015 when the British Takeaway Awards named it one of the best venues across the UK. The restaurant proved so popular that Atomic Kitten star Liz McClarnon, a regular customer at the time, publicly backed it to win.
Sudden Closure
Last week, the venue closed temporarily due to a gas-related issue in the kitchen, with a promise to reopen once resolved. However, in a recent Instagram post, Eton Place announced its immediate and permanent closure. The post, from owner Turgut Olgun, read:
"Goodbye for today, thank you forever. After 15 amazing years, today I say goodbye to Eton Place, Woolton Road. This restaurant has been more than just a business - it has been my passion, my hard work, and a part of my life. I am so proud of the memories we created together: the laughter, the celebrations, the friendships and all the special moments. Thank you to all my loyal customers, friends, family and staff who have supported me through every step of this journey. You have made Eton Place what it is today. These memories will stay in my heart forever. Wishing you all happiness, health, and success always. Thank you and goodbye. Turgut Olgun."
A notice on the restaurant's window stated it would remain open for an additional day on Tuesday, July 28.
Customer Tributes
Messages and well-wishes poured in from customers who called Eton Place one of Liverpool's best restaurants. One person said: "Oh no, can’t believe this. This was my favourite restaurant. Lovely food, lovely people. Eaton Place you have been amazing. Good luck with whatever you decide to do next. Sorry to see you go." Another said: "OMG, I'm so sorry, one of mine and my son's favourite places to eat. We come regularly and I also come with friends. I'm sad to be reading this but wish you all the luck for the future. Thank you." A third added: "Oh I’m so sad, what a lovely place to eat. Food and staff are amazing, always friendly, accommodating. Will be missed so much. Best wishes for the future."
