Glasgow's Langside Café: A Timeless £6 Burger and Huge Portions
Langside Café: £6 Burger and Huge Portions in Glasgow

Glasgow's Langside Café, a historic establishment dating back to around 1920, offers a delicious £6 cheeseburger with generous portions, according to Alexander Smail of Scotland Now. Smail stumbled upon the café in the Southside and was impressed by the value for money and nostalgic atmosphere.

A Century-Old Institution

Located on Langside Place near Queen's Park, the Langside Café has been serving locals for over 100 years. Smail noted the café's old-fashioned exterior and interior, featuring diner-style booths, vintage sweetie jars, and black-and-white photographs. "It felt a little bit surreal to be eating somewhere where locals have been sitting down for breakfast and lunch for more than 100 years," he said.

The £6 Burger and More

Smail ordered a cheeseburger costing only £6, which came with a large portion of chips and a salad with pickles. He described the burger as "juicy and hearty," with cheese adding richness and the salad providing freshness. His partner opted for the £7.50 all-day breakfast, including bacon, link sausage, square sausage, egg, potato scone, beans, and toast. Smail praised the breakfast, noting the tattie scones and eggs as standouts, though the square sausage was the weakest link.

Nostalgic Milkshake

The vanilla milkshake, served in an old-fashioned glass with a red-and-white straw, also impressed. Smail remarked it "felt straight out of another era" and speculated that the recipe might be unchanged since the 1920s.

Overall Verdict

Smail concluded that the Langside Café is a "true breath of fresh air" compared to trendy, expensive cafés in Glasgow. He plans to return, calling it a great lunch spot with excellent value for money.
