Jellycat collectors have expressed discontent over the brand's policy regarding Bartholomew Bear outfits. The plush toy, which has seen a surge in popularity, comes with various outfits sewn onto the bear, preventing fans from purchasing outfits separately.
One Reddit user on the 'Jellycat Plush' thread questioned why Jellycat does not sell Bartholomew's outfits as individual items. The user noted that upon removing the outfit from their bear, they realised it was not permanently attached, leading to confusion about why the brand does not offer separate sales.
Another fan speculated that the policy is purely profit-driven, stating: 'Yeah, it's totally just so they can make more $$ and they know people will buy them.' A frustrated collector added: 'The joke is on them. I would buy Bart if he had interchangeable outfits, but I don't like the idea of having to buy a new Bart with every outfit... so instead, I just have zero Bart.'
However, one woman who emailed Jellycat about the issue reported that the company is 'considering it for the future.' She argued that selling outfits separately could generate more revenue, suggesting: 'They should make some with outfits and sell the outfits separately if they still want a profit.'
Bartholomew Bear comes in various themed outfits, including a robe, strawberry costume, and bee outfit. Fans hope Jellycat will reconsider its approach to allow for more customisation without requiring multiple purchases of the same bear.
