Home Bargains Celebrates 50 Years with Retro Makeover and Nostalgic Items
Home Bargains 50th Anniversary Retro Makeover and Items

Home Bargains is taking shoppers back to 1976 as it celebrates its 50th anniversary. The retailer, which opened its first store in Old Swan, Liverpool, in 1976 as Home + Bargain, now boasts over 600 stores nationwide and is worth billions.

A Nostalgic Makeover

To mark the milestone, Home Bargains has introduced a range of retro-inspired products and store changes. The Bold Street store in Liverpool has been temporarily transformed, with its sign replaced by a black and white replica of the original Home + Bargain logo. Staff are wearing red pinafores inspired by the 1970s uniform, and the store is playing music from 1976.

Retro Products on Shelves

Shoppers can find limited-edition items such as retro tins of Horlicks chewable sweets, Nescafe with 1970s-style labeling, and 50th anniversary brownies, cupcakes, and Branston Beans with special packaging. Love Lane Brewery, a Liverpool local, has supplied a Golden Ale with Home Bargains branding.

More items are planned, including a jute bag featuring an illustration of the original Old Swan shop, available at the end of July after a sell-out tote bag in the same design.

Celebrating Scouse Heritage

Despite a name and logo change in the 1990s, many locals still affectionately refer to the store as Home + Bargain. The anniversary celebrations honor this long-standing connection to Merseyside.

A spokesperson said the company worked with long-standing suppliers on the limited-edition items. The retro signage at Bold Street will be removed on Monday morning, June 22, but the nostalgic products will be available through summer while stocks last.
