Home Bargains is selling the Pifco Oil Filled Radiator for £29.99, a 1.5KW portable device that retains heat even after being switched off, offering a cost-effective way to warm a single room without turning on the central heating.
The radiator features seven oil-filled fins that provide a "steady" and "even" distribution of heat. The increased surface area allows for a much greater heat transfer, which is said to provide a "faster warming of the surrounding area."
Features and design
Equipped with three power settings and measuring 33.5cm x 24cm x 54cm, it can help to provide a touch of warmth to smaller rooms in the household, such as bedrooms, spare rooms, hallways and offices. The oil inside can "retain heat," meaning it stays warm even when turned off, so there's no worry about having to leave it on for extended periods.
Said to be "near silent" to operate, it won't cause any disruptions, particularly in quieter areas. Weighing just 5.9kg and coming with easy move wheels, it can be transported to wherever it is needed without a struggle. Other features include an adjustable thermostat and an overheat cut-out safety function.
Running costs and alternatives
Based on the Sust.it.net energy calculator, the running cost of a 1500W oil-filled radiator is around 39p per hour and £2.37 per day. While the calculator acts only as a guide, it does take into account the Ofgem Price Cap Increase that took place on October 1, which saw households see an average increase in their bills by around four percent.
For shoppers not keen on an oil-filled radiator, Home Bargains has quite a few alternatives. The Pifco Convector Heater With Turbo & Timer, priced at £29.99, comes with a heat boost for those who really struggle with the cold. A more traditional option is the Pifco Convector Heater for just £19.99.
Anyone looking to stick to a real tight budget can invest in the Pifco Upright Fan Heater. This 2,000W device acts as a "powerful" 2-in-1, as it can provide warmth in winter and a cooling fan in the summer. It's not just radiators that are available on store shelves; Home Bargains has launched a full range of "Winter Essentials," both in store and online, with everything from heated blankets to cosy throws to choose from.
Rival budget retailer B&M also has a wide range of "energy-saving" items on store shelves right now, including a range of portable heaters such as the brand new Blaupunkt Log Effect Electric Stove that gives off that traditional, rustic charm for just £45.
