Home Bargains has delighted customers with a piece of wall art so striking it could easily be mistaken for a far pricier painting. The budget retail chain stocks virtually everything, from food and snacks to skincare products, DIY tools, gardening supplies, and home décor.
Affordable Art That Turns Heads
As part of its homeware range, shoppers can pick up a £12.99 canvas. The artwork has garnered considerable attention for its striking similarity to an £885 Studio McGee painting. On TikTok, content creator @Homewithrox shared a video of the "gorgeous" piece with her followers, reports the Liverpool Echo.
She said: "The McGee [alternative] is back! £12.99 Home Bargains and they are beautiful! run!! Follow for me i'm moving house and I renovating." In the comments, one user responded: "Oh this is gorgeous." A second wrote: "Oh that's stunning." While a third added: "Great find."
Viral Sensation Returns
The canvas first went viral last year when interiors blogger Sophie Higgs, known on Instagram as @Home_by_the_cloud, posted a video of the "absolute bargain" to her 376k followers. In the clip, she hangs the piece above her bed, saying: "It finishes off our bedroom perfectly."
At the time, she added: "This absolute bargain painted picture was only £12.99 and a really similar one from Studio McGee is £968! Remember a couple of weeks ago when I said I'd found the most incredible home find, that I actually think could be the bargain of the year - well this is it!"
"It's from @Homebargains and I love it so much. The picture is actually painted on the canvas and it has a wooden frame around it too. I'd been looking for the perfect picture for our bedroom and I'm so happy I found this."
Comparison to Designer Original
The £12.99 canvas is drawing comparisons to McGee and Co's Cotton Candy Clouds painting. On the official website, the artwork is described as: "Cotton candy clouds graze over this serene lake scene in this piece for a creative play on colour." It further states: "With warm tones juxtaposed against cool greens and blues, it lends a soft dimension to your entryway vignette." The painting is priced at $1,194, equivalent to £884.87. By choosing the Home Bargains £12.99 alternative, shoppers could pocket a saving of hundreds of pounds.
Stock and Availability
Last week, a member of the Home Bargains Appreciation Society Facebook page shared photos of the canvas with the caption: "Does anyone know if these are in stock in the Bognor or Chichester store please? Before I send my partner hunting for them." In the comments, one Facebook user responded: "Im sure the grayton store had these in last week! Might be worth a call to ask." Another added: "None! Ive been looking in those stores too!"
A third chimed in: "There is one extremely similar in the range if you can't find this." The Range is currently stocking its Idyllic Country Scene Framed Art for £21.99, which could serve as a budget-friendly option for those seeking a comparable aesthetic.
When questioned about whether the £12.99 canvas remains available in shops, a Home Bargains spokesperson confirmed: "We are still selling these; however, the stock is limited and would only be residual stock. At the moment, there are no plans to restock this particular design." Shoppers eager to purchase one should visit their nearest branches, but bear in mind that availability is finite.
