The former Seagers restaurant site in Gorseinon, Swansea, is set to reopen as The Coal House, a new steak restaurant and bar, in October. Redefining Dining Co has acquired the site and is undertaking a "major transformation" ahead of the reopening.
Transformation plans
The new venue is described as "a destination steak restaurant and bar", with an extensive refurbishment programme underway. This includes the complete transformation of the restaurant and bar area, improvements to the external areas, and a significant upgrade to the car park.
Seagers closed in March, citing "financial pressures" as the reason for its closure. Redefining Dining Co has now stepped in to bring the venue back into use.
Menu and drinks focus
The menu will centre on steak, with "expertly prepared dry-aged steaks" forming a central part of the offering, alongside seasonal dishes and a wider food selection. The bar will offer crafted cocktails, premium spirits, well-kept beers, and a considered wine list, designed to complement the food or stand alone for drinks.
A statement said: "The ambition is simple: to create one of South Wales’ standout neighbourhood steakhouses — a restaurant people will travel for, but one that remains firmly rooted in Gorseinon and its community."
Community legacy
Redefining Dining Co said it recognises the history of the former Seagers site and intends to build on that legacy, preserving its role as a place for the local community to dine, socialise and celebrate.
Chief operating officer Nathan Evans said: "Living in the area, I know how much this venue means to the community and how Chris and the family have supported Gorseinon with great food and hospitality over many years." He added that the investment goes "well beyond changing the name above the door" and that recruitment would begin shortly, particularly encouraging previous Seagers employees and local applicants.
Redefining Dining Co operates several hospitality brands across Wales, including The Welsh House, The Wine House, Cattle & Co Smokehouse, Salvatore’s Pizzeria and The Saloon.
