Cleaning the oven is a chore many put off, but when baked-on grease accumulates, a heavy-duty cleaner is needed. Angela Patrone tested two popular products: Mr Muscle Oven Cleaner and Elbow Grease Oven and Grill Cleaner.
Testing the Cleaners
Both sprays claim to remove tough grease without scrubbing. Patrone prepped the oven by heating it to soften burnt-on carbon, then applied Mr Muscle to the left side and Elbow Grease to the right. After 30 minutes, the Elbow Grease side showed more lifted grease, turning foam darker. Mr Muscle foam remained thicker but less effective on stains.
Results After Multiple Applications
After five rounds, Elbow Grease left the oven spotless, while Mr Muscle left some stains. Elbow Grease was cheaper (£1.69 for 400ml) compared to Mr Muscle (£4 for 300ml) and applied faster due to a finer mist.
Both sprays cut grease on first use, but stubborn stains required reapplication. Overall, Elbow Grease proved more effective and economical.
