A savvy charity shop shopper has described their delight after bagging a 'holy grail' find for just £7.52 – a Singer sewing machine worth significantly more. The bargain hunter spotted the coveted item complete with original packaging, all accessories, and even the receipt from 2021.
The machine originally retailed at $149.99 (£112.92), but the shopper managed to purchase it for a mere $9.99 (£7.52). Posting on Reddit, they said: 'My mom needed a sewing machine and has been looking for one. After a few months of keeping my eye out, this guy comes out on a cart!'
The post went on to reveal that the machine was used but in excellent condition, with all parts and instructions present. The shopper expressed gratitude to the original buyer, 'Judith', for donating such a sought-after brand.
Singer sewing machines are highly regarded by both beginners and experienced sewers. On its website, the brand states: 'Today many of the vintage models are collector's items and very much sought after.' Prices can range from £159 for a basic model to £879 for a top-end version.
Fellow Reddit users were quick to share their envy, with one commenting: 'So jealous!!' Another added: 'That is such a score!!!' The shopper later noted that their mother had been about to buy a new machine, but they convinced her to wait for a charity shop find, saving a substantial sum.
