The British Heart Foundation has announced the closure of 87 shops, with more planned, as part of a major restructuring of its high street presence. The charity said it will close approximately 150 shops over the next two years, citing rising running costs and evolving consumer behaviours.
Closures to begin immediately
More than 600 British Heart Foundation shops currently operate throughout the UK. The initial phase of closures is expected to be completed by March 2027, with the full 150 closing by March 2028.
Dr Charmaine Griffiths, chief executive of the British Heart Foundation, said: "Our shops mean so much to our colleagues, brilliant volunteers and communities across the UK. Like most retailers, we are facing an exceptionally challenging trading environment."
Support for affected staff and volunteers
Griffiths added that the charity was grateful to staff and volunteers affected by the closures and said workers would be supported throughout the process. Impacted staff members are anticipated to be offered redeployment options wherever feasible, while volunteers will be offered positions at neighbouring shops or elsewhere within the organisation.
