Owner Whitbread has announced that all Beefeater and Brewers Fayre branded pub-restaurants will close within months as part of a £250 million cost-cutting plan. Around 3,800 jobs across the UK are at risk. Whitbread is focusing on becoming a hotel chain, converting some venues into Premier Inns.
Closing dates
All Beefeater locations across the UK will close on Thursday, September 10. Brewers Fayre restaurants will shut after dinner service on Monday, September 7. Brands such as Bar + Block, Table Table and Cookhouse + Pub will close on September 3.

Beefeaters closing September 10: Bagle Brook (Port Talbot), The Coldra (Newport), The Longbow (Llantrisant), Walston Castle (Cardiff/Wenvoe), The Waterfront (Swansea). Brewers Fayres closing September 7: Abergavenny, Afon Conwy (Conwy), Barry Island, Crossways (Caerphilly), Ocean Park (Cardiff), The Sandpiper (Llanelli), Swansea Vale, Tirfounder Fields (Aberdare), Victoria Park (Ebbw Vale).
Campaign to save Bagle Brook
A campaign was launched to save the popular Bagle Brook restaurant in Baglan. Local councillors said while they understood the hospitality sector was facing significant challenges and the commercial pressures that exist, the impacts on local jobs, livelihoods and community life should be given equal consideration. They said: “For many people locally this is far more than simply a restaurant. The Bagle Brook has become an important part of community life in Baglan.”
