B&M to reopen Wigan shop as first 'store of the future'

B&M is set to relaunch its Wigan store in Worthington Way on Friday, 28 August, following an extensive seven-phase transformation. The 24,449sqft store has been selected as B&M's future concept store, becoming a testing ground for innovative layouts, merchandising ideas, new technology and customer-focused initiatives.

New features and technology

The relaunch introduces several new features, including a brand-new frozen food department, self-checkout tills and enhanced product displays across the store. Customers will also notice updated signage and improved wayfinding. New technology includes colleague communication headsets and customer assistance buttons, which will help B&M gather insight into how technology can enhance the customer experience across its wider store estate.

Bosses say the transformation has created a 'brighter, more spacious and contemporary shopping experience,' with an enhanced store environment and new technology.

Celebration weekend

To celebrate with customers, B&M will host a weekend of family-friendly celebrations from Friday 28 to Sunday 30 August. The festivities will begin with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony led by the Mayor of Wigan and representatives from The Brick charity at 10am, alongside appearances from Wigan Warriors first-team players from 11am. The full weekend celebrations will include giveaways, prizes, goody bags from a variety of B&M's biggest brands and entertainment.

As part of the relaunch celebrations, colleagues nominated The Brick, Queen's Hall Action on Poverty, to officially unveil the new store. The charity will also receive £500 worth of B&M vouchers to support their ongoing work.
