Asda's £32 girls' puffer jacket is proving so popular that almost all sizes have sold out online, with many stores holding only very limited sizes. The coat has gone viral after a mum shared her hunt for it, and parents are now scouring supermarket aisles to find one for their children.
The jacket's appeal lies in its combination of style and practicality. It features a shimmery holographic finish, a thick, fluffy hood, a cinched waist belt, and a small bow dangling from the pocket. Parents say it's going down a storm with girls who love the mermaid iridescent vibe, and it's also extremely practical, so children don't have to be forced into a big, ugly winter coat.
TikTok creator investigates the hype
After hearing the coat was flying off the shelves everywhere, TikTok creator @hotglueandhiccups decided to investigate what all the hype was about. While she already had lightweight raincoats sorted for her daughter, she was after something more heavy-duty for those rapidly approaching mornings when the weather turns "absolutely freezing".
Convinced that "no other coat would do", the mum fully expected her local Asda to be completely stripped bare. Fortunately, she managed to uncover the very last one, tucked away on the rails in her daughter's size, and declared that "Asda absolutely knew what they were doing with this one".
Mixed opinions on TikTok
While plenty of viewers praised the "sweet" find, the sparkly coat has certainly split opinion on TikTok. Some parents took the opportunity to voice their frustration over the lack of choice for boys, with one disgruntled shopper writing: "The boys' coats section was shocking, not one decent coat there when I went yesterday, couldn't believe it."
Others remained unconvinced by the unashamedly girly look. "I think I'm the only one who thinks it's so ugly," one user commented, dismissing the design as "tacky looking". The creator responded diplomatically, admitting that while it wasn't to her own taste, her six-year-old daughter was completely besotted with it.
In an unexpected turn of events, however, the sceptical commenter later came back to publicly admit she'd got it wrong. Having clapped eyes on the holographic coat during her own trip to the shops, she conceded it was actually "a lot cuter" in person, which is proof that sometimes, there's simply no substitute for seeing things for yourself.
