Asda has launched a new fuel promotion offering up to 5p per litre off petrol and diesel for customers who spend £40 or more in a single in-store transaction before July 31. The deal, available through the Asda Rewards app, comes as the supermarket faces criticism for having the highest fuel prices among the UK's top four grocery chains.
Asda's Fuel Pricing Compared to Rivals
According to RAC Fuel Watch data, Asda currently charges an average of 149.2p per litre for petrol, making it the most expensive among the big four supermarkets. By comparison, Sainsbury's charges 148.2p, Tesco 148.3p, and Morrisons 148.5p. For diesel, Asda also leads at 164.3p per litre, while Morrisons is the cheapest at 160.9p, followed by Sainsbury's at 161p and Tesco at 161.3p.
How the Promotion Works
Customers who spend £40 or more in a single in-store transaction at Asda before July 31 will receive a fuel coupon in their Asda Rewards app. The coupon offers up to 5p per litre off fuel at 321 Asda supermarkets and Express sites selling Asda-branded fuel. To redeem, customers simply scan their Rewards barcode and the fuel coupon at the pump or kiosk when paying.
Asda chief customer officer Rachel Eyre said: “We’re making Asda Rewards even more rewarding. Asda is more than just a supermarket and we’re always looking for new ways to help families save on top of our low prices. Through our new Grocery and Fuel Bonus, customers can now unlock savings on fuel alongside their weekly shop, another step in our plans to keep growing Asda Rewards and give our customers even more value every time they shop with us.”
Potential Savings for Motorists
Asda estimates that an individual filling up a 60-litre family car could save up to £3 through the new deal this summer. The promotion extends the role of Asda Rewards beyond grocery shopping, giving the supermarket a new way to encourage customer spending.
