Aldi is set to release a new Special Buy in its Middle Aisle on Thursday, August 20, offering a budget-friendly alternative to premium stick vacuums from Dyson and Shark. The Ambiano Cyclonic Stick Vacuum Cleaner will be priced at £39.99 and is part of a 'Student Home' collection aimed at those starting or returning to university in September.
Features and price
The vacuum comes in black or white, features a DC motor, a 180-degree swivel head, a motorised brush, and three LED lights. It has a run time of up to 32 minutes. Aldi describes it as lightweight, powerful, and easy to manoeuvre, delivering deep cleaning performance on every floor.
Stock for Special Buy items is limited, so once it sells out, it won't be restocked. The £39.99 price tag positions it as a cheaper option compared to similar models from Dyson and Shark.
Comparison to premium brands
The Aldi vacuum shares features with Dyson's V8 Cordless Vacuum, which retails for £239 at retailers like Currys and John Lewis. Both feature a lightweight, bagless design with attachments. They also share a cordless stick design with a detachable handheld section and interchangeable nozzles, and both are bagless cyclonic systems suitable for hard floors and low-pile rugs.
However, Reddit users have mixed opinions. Some say the Ambiano is good for quick clean-ups or smaller areas but lacks the powerful motor, larger bin capacity, or long-lasting battery life in high mode that a Dyson offers. Users generally agree that budget store-brand stick vacuums tend to have more plastic parts and a shorter lifespan compared to premium models.
The Aldi vacuum is also comparable to Shark's Stratos Cordless Stick Vacuum, which costs £229.99 at Argos. Both have a similar light, upright design and a detachable handheld option, but Aldi's model is said to have lower suction power and lacks the advanced anti-hair-wrap rollers.
