The Good Housekeeping Institute has named the best supermarket mince pies for Christmas 2026, with Aldi taking the top spot. The retailer's Specially Selected Mince Pies 6pk, priced at £1.75, scored 86/100 in a blind taste test conducted by the consumer experts.
Aldi Sweeps Festive Categories
Aldi, which was recently named the cheapest supermarket in the UK, also won the best turkey crown category this year. In total, the retailer secured 13 first and second-place results spanning turkey, pigs in blankets, mince pies, cheese and wine.
The Good Housekeeping Institute's panel of experts and consumers tested 42 classic, flavoured and gluten-free mince pies. The winning Aldi pie impressed testers with its rich, fruity and gently spiced flavour.
What the Testers Said
"Proving you needn't spend a lot for a standout mince pie, Aldi takes this year's top spot," Good Housekeeping said. "Rich, fruity and gently spiced; testers compared this pie's festive aroma to a glass of mulled wine."
"The filling was the star, packed with juicy vine fruit, a mouthwatering hit of orange, and a warming hint of alcohol. It looks the part too, finished with a classic snowflake topping."
Top Five and Runners-Up
In second place was the Brownie and the Bean Mince Pies 4pk, followed by the Tesco Finest Amaretto Mince Pies 4pk in third. The top five also included the Aldi Specially Selected The Ultimate Brown Butter Mince Pies 6pk and the Co-op Irresistible Amaretto & Frangipane Mince Pies 4pk.
Sixth place went to the Waitrose Free From Milk & Gluten Free Mince Pies 2pk, with the Costa Gluten Free Vegan Mince Tart for 1 in seventh, the Waitrose No.1 Brown Butter Mince Pies with Cognac 6pk in eighth, and the Abel & Cole Large Sharing Mince Pie (8-10 Servings) in ninth.
Aldi's Festive Success

Aldi also dominated the trimmings sector, with its Specially Selected Double Wrapped Pigs in Blankets (£2.69, 250g) named overall winner of the 'Classic Pigs in Blankets' category.
