Aldi shoppers slammed for reselling wooden toy hauls online

Shoppers have been branded 'disgusting' and 'selfish' after showing off their Aldi middle aisle hauls from a huge sale before flogging their purchases online. The store's annual wooden toy event got underway across the country yesterday, with bargain hunters keen to get through the doors early to snap up the toys before stocks disappear.

Scenes described as 'hunger games for wooden toys'

The day has become a major draw for shoppers in the run-up to Christmas, with the range offering traditional-style playsets and toys at relatively low prices, available only while stocks last. Pictures show shoppers queuing outside the store ready for it to open, and once it had opened, the middle aisle was full of shoppers. But soon, items started to appear on re-sale sites.

One attendee described the scenes as “the hunger games for wooden toys”, and added “never seen anything like it”. TikToker Katie proudly showed off her huge haul on social media, saying: “Aldi toy event? Smashed it. Wow! That was an experience.”

Criticism over reselling for profit

She didn't get the response she hoped for, and one person wrote: “That’s pure greed and disgusting,” while another put “I’ll never understand this behaviour.” A third person joined the debate, adding: “I mean if it’s all for your child fair play but if it’s for vinted to re-sell that’s just wrong.”

The criticism didn't stop there. “Someone I know works at Aldi and was telling me about the amount of toys people were buying, multiples. Clearly going to be sold on to make a profit. I hope the tax man catches up with them,” someone else chipped in.

This year's range and prices

This year’s range includes a wooden doll’s house priced at £34.99, a children’s table and chairs for £24.99 and a children’s bookshelf costing £19.99. Among the more eye-catching products is a Wooden Aldi Supermarket, priced at £29.99, alongside a wooden modern kitchen for £29.99 and a £24.99 wooden play world.

There are also plenty of cheaper options for parents looking for stocking fillers, including a £9.99 wooden activity board, an £8.99 musician set and an £11.99 wooden kitchen set. The range includes everything from a wooden railway set and pirate ship to a piano and drum kit, with prices ranging from single figures to larger £34.99 play items.
