Aldi Hits Back at Customer Comparing Deeno Bars to 'Overpriced' Freddo

Gone are the days when a Freddo cost just 10p; now the chocolate frog commands 25p, sparking frustration among budget-conscious shoppers. Aldi has responded with its own rival treat, Deeno the Dinosaur, a pack of 10 for £1.99—priced at under 20p per bar.

The discount supermarket’s social media team delivered a memorable clapback after a customer, Michelle Hodge, suggested a caramel variant like the one Freddo offers. Aldi replied: “Don’t ever compare us to that overpriced amphibian again.” The exchange delighted many shoppers, with one declaring it “an attack on the Finest Chocolate Bar Ever Made.”

Despite the buzz, Deeno bars are not stocked in all Aldi stores, leaving some fans frustrated. One shopper claimed they are “a myth,” prompting Aldi to apologise and ask for the location to pass on feedback.

The cheeky response has reinforced Aldi’s reputation for affordable alternatives, with customers praising the value—especially as Cadbury recently axed another popular bar, leaving fans “devastated.”
