Aldi has announced that all of its 1,050 stores across the UK will close for three days during the festive period to give staff a break. The supermarket chain will shut from December 25 to December 27, including Boxing Day, and will also close on New Year's Day. Normal hours will resume from January 2.
Rebecca Heley, communications director at Aldi UK, said: 'Christmas is a special time, and we want to ensure all of our colleagues have the opportunity to relax and enjoy it with their loved ones. That’s why all Aldi stores will be closed on Boxing Day this year.' She added: 'We know how hard colleagues work to deliver an amazing Christmas for our customers, and this is one small way of saying thank you.'
The move follows Aldi's policy in recent years of closing on Boxing Day. Other retailers, such as Home Bargains, have also decided to shut on Boxing Day this year. A Home Bargains statement read: 'All of our stores will be closing for Boxing Day & New Year's Day. We would like to thank all our colleagues for how hard you have worked this past year, and want you to relax and enjoy the Christmas break with your loved ones.'
