Aldi confirms August bank holiday opening times change

Aldi has confirmed a change to its opening hours across stores in England and Wales this month for the August bank holiday. Supermarkets often operate different hours on bank holidays, and while there is no legal requirement to close, stores may choose to do so or run reduced hours due to lower staff availability.

Reduced hours on August 31

On Monday, August 31, Aldi stores in England and Wales will be open from 8am until 8pm. Normally, these stores are open from 8am until 10pm, meaning shoppers planning a late evening visit will have two fewer hours to shop.

Aldi stores in Scotland and Northern Ireland will operate under their usual opening hours with no change for the bank holiday.

Quietest times and price cuts

Aldi data from last year's August bank holiday weekend shows that 8am to 9am and 7pm to 8pm were the quietest times to shop. Shoppers can also save on their bank holiday shop after Aldi reduced the price of 330 products, including fresh and frozen food, cupboard staples and household essentials. The latest reductions are backed by a £100 million investment, meaning Aldi has now cut the price of more than 1,000 products this year.

Rachel Geary, Communications Director at Aldi UK, said: “Whether shoppers are stocking up for a barbecue, getting together with family and friends or picking up some last-minute essentials, we want to make their bank holiday shop as easy as possible. For anyone looking to beat the bank holiday rush, heading to stores first thing in the morning or later in the evening is likely to mean a quieter shop.”

Return to normal hours

All Aldi stores across the UK will return to normal opening times after the bank holiday from September 1 onwards. Shoppers can check the opening hours of their local Aldi using the online store finder.
