With Christmas approaching, many shoppers are seeking affordable sparkling wines that don't compromise on quality. A blind taste test conducted by Which? has identified the best budget bottles, with Aldi and The Co-op tying for first place.
The panel of wine experts sampled ten supermarket sparkling wines priced between £5 and £15. Aldi's Specially Selected Crémant Du Jura, priced at £8.99, earned the Which? Best Buy endorsement. Tasters praised its crisp, refreshing taste with hints of green apple, guava, and grapefruit, and a smooth, creamy finish.
The Co-op's Irresistible Prosecco, at £9, also took the top spot. Described as a “crowd pleaser,” it was commended for its zesty aroma and notes of ripe peach, pear, and jasmine, offering a champagne alternative at a fraction of the cost.
After blind tasting, the panel discussed each wine's characteristics and agreed on overall scores, awarding the Best Buy designation to the top performers. Both winning bottles are widely available at their respective supermarkets.
