South Lanarkshire Council Introduces New Bulk Uplift Collection Rules
New Bulk Uplift Rules for South Lanarkshire

South Lanarkshire Council has introduced new arrangements for bulk uplift collections in a bid to keep streets clearer and reduce obstructions.

New Placement Requirements

Under the new system, residents booking a bulk uplift will normally be asked to leave items within the boundary of their property, rather than on the pavement or kerbside. Collections should be left in a front or back garden, driveway or, in the case of flats, a communal area closest to the road. Where possible, items should be placed on hardstanding or a path to make them easier for collection crews to access.

Kerbside collections will only be used where there is no suitable location within the property, with residents receiving alternative instructions when making their booking.

Reasoning Behind the Change

The council says the changes are designed to improve the appearance of streets and reduce hazards caused by bulky items being left on pavements. Executive Director of Community and Enterprise, Kevin Carr, said: “This change will help keep streets cleaner and clear from obstructions.”

Guidelines for Residents

Carr added: “Guidelines are available on how to prepare for your bulk uplift, and we would ask that items are ready for collection by 7am on the day they are to be collected. Please remember to only leave out items included in your booking, additional items won’t be uplifted.

“Items should be visible and accessible to the collection crew, please also unlock gates and remove obstacles to allow the crews safe access to the items for uplift. You should also safely place items as per the guidance given at the time of booking, and keep pets restrained or indoors on the day so crew can enter garden safely.”
