UK Fruit Farm in Administration After 50 Years

A family-run fruit farm that has been in business for 50 years has plunged into administration. New Farm Produce Ltd, registered in Lichfield, appointed administrators on June 8, according to a notice posted to The Gazette.

The administrators are Scott Christian Bevan and Simon David Chandler, both of Forvis Mazars LLP in Birmingham. The company, which allows customers to pick their own strawberries and raspberries, has not yet issued a statement on its closure.

Company Background

On its website, New Farm Produce Ltd describes itself as a family-run business growing strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, asparagus, and cherries. It says: “We are a forward-thinking business that continually innovates to be at the forefront of our industry. We strive to grow our business with sustainability and great taste for all our produce.”

The company adds: “New Farm Produce Ltd is a great example of a successful family run rural business that is managed by committed people to achieve the best in our field of expertise. We have continually tried to utilise our resources to our best advantage and never afraid to adapt to an ever-changing demand from our customers.”

Innovation and Investment

The farm emphasises its innovative approach, which it says has enabled it to be at the forefront of technology. It notes: “Such major change demands significant ongoing investment into our business to ensure we can continue to be profitable and sustainable for future generations.” However, despite this focus, the company has now entered administration.

What Does Administration Mean?

When a company goes into administration, it enters a legal process under the Insolvency Act 1986. The aim is to achieve one of the statutory objectives, such as rescuing a viable business that is insolvent due to cashflow problems. An administrator is appointed by directors, a creditor, or the court to manage the process.
