A planning application filed with Liverpool City Council seeks permission to demolish the building at 73 Dale Street and redevelop the site alongside the adjoining land at no. 71. The proposal includes a ground-floor retail unit with residential apartments above. The building has been vacant for more than 15 years and is in a poor state of repair, with holes in part of the floor.
Historic Building in Conservation Area
The building dates back to the early 19th century and falls within the Castle Street Conservation Area, though it is not listed. It previously adjoined no. 71 Dale Street, which was demolished in the early 2000s. The redevelopment would occupy the full plot of nos. 71–73, with no parking provided due to the limited size of the land.
Former Home of Morath Brothers
One of the oldest businesses to occupy the premises was Morath Brothers, which specialised in imported clocks, particularly cuckoo clocks, and watches. The business dated back to the 1950s. Originally from the Black Forest area of Germany, the Morath family settled in Liverpool and became renowned as importers and distributors.
