Hadid Sisters' Childhood Home Site Sells for Record $6.5M After LA Fires
The land that once hosted the childhood home of supermodels Bella and Gigi Hadid has been sold for a record-breaking $6.5 million, following the mansion's destruction in the devastating Los Angeles wildfires of January 2025. According to a report by TMZ, the 3.25-acre property, formerly known as the Carbon Canyon Estate, closed its sale on Wednesday, establishing what appears to be the most expensive property transaction in Malibu since the fires ravaged the region.
From Lavish Estate to Fire-Ravaged Land
Originally listed at just under $12 million, the site of the former Hadid–Foster mansion saw its value dramatically impacted by the natural disaster. The property was previously owned by the modeling sisters' mother, Yolanda Hadid, and her ex-husband, musician David Foster, who finalized their divorce in 2017. The couple initially purchased the estate for $4.5 million in 2007, while they were dating, and later married in 2011 before separating in 2015.
Bella Hadid, now 29, documented the terrifying destruction of her former home through Instagram posts during the fires, which consumed numerous properties across Malibu, Pacific Palisades, Altadena, and other Los Angeles communities. The mansion, described as a European-style villa, was completely reduced to rubble, leaving only the land available for sale.
A Symbolic Sale in a Challenging Market
The listing was handled by Daniel Milstein and Aaron Kirman for Christie's International Real Estate. In comments to TMZ, Milstein expressed pride in representing the property and setting a new record as Malibu works to recover from the fires. He noted that this impressive sale occurred despite a tough real estate market, suggesting that buyers in LA and Malibu still perceive significant value in the area, even after recent natural disasters.
Prior to the fires, the mansion had been listed for sale in July 2024 with an asking price of $35 million, highlighting the substantial financial impact of the destruction. The property gained additional fame through its appearances on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, where Yolanda Hadid starred from 2012 to 2016, making the home a regular filming location. During this period, her children—Bella, Gigi (now 30), and son Anwar (26)—all lived there.
Future Potential and Celebrity Connections
The listing encouraged potential buyers to envision a lavish new estate on the fire-ravaged land, featuring renderings from the Bowery Design Group. These proposals included a 14,000-square-foot home with six bedrooms, ten bathrooms, and amenities such as a screening room, gym, spa, game room, and extensive outdoor areas. While these plans are merely conceptual, the new owners will gain tangible benefits, including access to the exclusive La Costa Beach Club and proximity to popular spots like the Malibu Pier, Carbon Beach, Soho House, and the celebrity-favored Nobu restaurant.
After the Hadid family moved out, the property was temporarily rented by Kylie Jenner, adding to its star-studded history. Following the fires, both Bella and Yolanda relocated to Fort Worth, Texas. Bella purchased property there to be near her boyfriend, Adan Banuelos, while Yolanda built a home with her then-fiancé, Joseph Jingoli, though their engagement ended in June of last year.
This sale not only marks a significant transaction in Malibu's post-fire real estate landscape but also closes a chapter on a property deeply intertwined with celebrity culture and personal history for the Hadid family.
