Peter Dutton Sells £1.7m Queensland Farm for Downsizing Move
Ex-Opposition Leader Dutton sells historic farm

Former Australian Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has placed his expansive Queensland farm on the market, marking a significant lifestyle change as he plans to 'give unit life a go'. The historic property, known as 'Juffs Farm', is set for auction on December 12.

From Political Battles to Rural Tranquillity

Dutton purchased the sprawling 169-acre estate in Dayboro, approximately an hour's drive north of Brisbane, in August 2020 for $2.1 million. He described the cattle farm and its tranquillity as a crucial escape from his demanding political career. 'I'm a frustrated farmer, so the cattle and tranquillity have been a great switch off from a busy life in politics,' Dutton told The Courier Mail.

The property, featuring six bedrooms and four bathrooms, became a family haven. 'The kids have loved the farm – motorbikes and tractors and swimming and kayaking in the river,' Dutton said. However, with his youngest child now 20, the former MP for Dickson has decided it is time to downsize.

A Substantial Property Portfolio

This sale concludes Dutton's involvement in a substantial personal property empire. Alongside his political career, he has engaged in property transactions totalling $30 million over 35 years. At his peak, he owned five properties simultaneously across Queensland plus a flat in the ACT.

In recent years, Dutton and his wife Kirrily have offloaded much of this portfolio, netting almost $5 million. Juffs Farm represents his last remaining residential holding. Ray White, the agency handling the sale, highlights the property's 'rich rural legacy', noting it once housed over 100 dairy cows and later supported beef cattle operations.

Luxury Amenities and Future Plans

The farm is marketed as an exceptional canvas for horse enthusiasts, cattle producers, or those seeking a private retreat. It boasts original timber floors, a hand-crafted fireplace built from local stone, and a modern extension with polished concrete.

Significantly, the estate offers resort-style recreation, including a full-size tennis court, a mini-golf area, and an infinity pool. The land also has scope for small-crop production or turf operations.

Dutton outlined his family's immediate plans: 'We are giving unit living a go for a while ... We will build again in the area on a smaller block in a few years' time. Until then, we want to do some travel and have no mowing.' This decision follows his departure from parliament after the federal election in May, a contest where polling later deemed him the 'least popular political leader' in decades.

The auction for Juffs Farm will commence at 10 am local time on December 12.
