The family home where Captain Sir Tom Moore raised millions for NHS charities during the pandemic has returned to the market with a £450,000 reduction from the original asking price. The Old Rectory in Marston Moretaine, Bedfordshire, is now listed on Rightmove by estate agents Michael Graham with a guide price of £1.8 million.
The property was first put up for sale in April 2024 at £2.25 million, but was withdrawn from the market at the end of that year after failing to sell. It was later re-marketed by Michael Graham with a guide price of £1,950,000.
Planning dispute over spa complex
The listing follows a planning dispute involving Captain Tom's daughter, Hannah Ingram-Moore, and her family. Central Bedfordshire Council ordered the demolition of their £200,000 spa complex, ruling that it was 'at odds' with the Grade II listed home.
The Ingram-Moores had been granted permission to build a Captain Tom Foundation Building in the garden to store cards and gifts sent by admirers. However, a sauna and spa were added that were not part of the original plans.
Property details and Captain Tom's legacy
The Grade II listed house has seven bedrooms and four bathrooms and sits on 3.5 acres, with a separate coach house currently used as a gym. Captain Tom lived there with his daughter and her family.
Captain Tom rose to fame after raising almost £39 million for NHS charities by walking 100 laps of his garden with a walking frame during the first Covid lockdown in spring 2020. He was later knighted by the Queen and died in February 2021.
