Chelsea and Tottenham supporters face travel chaos getting to and from Stamford Bridge for this weekend's London derby in the Premier League. The match kicks off at 5.30pm BST on Saturday evening, but both sets of fans planning to use the London Underground have been advised to seek alternative routes due to planned engineering works.
Engineering Works Close Key Stations
The District Line is closed west of Embankment Station and on the whole of the Edgware Road branch, including the line down to Wimbledon. This means Fulham Broadway Station will be closed all day, with no District Line trains running to any nearby stations on that branch of the tube network. The Circle Line will also be affected, closed between Edgware Road and Aldgate via Victoria.
Additionally, the Mildmay Line is set to be affected from 7.30pm on Saturday, with no service between Shepherd's Bush and Willesden Junction. There will also be a reduced service between Shepherd's Bush and Clapham Junction.
Alternative Routes and Advice for Fans
Supporters of Chelsea and Spurs planning to attend the match have been provided with walking routes to and from South Kensington, Earl's Court and Hammersmith stations, where alternative Underground lines can be used. However, fans have been urged to use Earl's Court and Hammersmith stations where possible, as entry to Earl's Court station may take up to an hour after the match.
This will be the third time this season that travel disruption has impacted fans getting to Stamford Bridge for a Chelsea fixture. Kick-off was delayed by 15 minutes for the Blues' 6-3 Carabao Cup third-round win over Leeds last month after issues on the District line and other London Underground lines due to a passenger incident. The game was supposed to begin at 8pm BST but instead kicked off at 8:15pm.
A few days later, fans of Chelsea and Hull had to find alternative routes to the stadium because of part closures on both the Circle and District lines across the weekend of September 12/13 due to planned works. That game, however, kicked off at 3pm BST, as expected, and finished 2-2 thanks to Joao Pedro's second-half equaliser.
