Blencowe Scaffolding Ltd, a family-run construction firm established in 1964, has plunged into administration, putting more than 100 jobs at risk. The company, which specialises in scaffolding, has appointed Julie Anne Palmer and Andrew Hook of BTG Begbies Traynor as administrators on August 12.

Founded by Pat Blencowe, the company operates from a head office in Salisbury and has two depots in Basingstoke and Eastleigh. It serves a 60-mile radius around each site, covering Hampshire, Wiltshire, Dorset, Somerset, Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Surrey and Sussex.
According to its latest accounts, Blencowe employed over 100 staff and had plant and equipment assets worth £7.6 million. All staff are now at risk of losing their jobs following the administration.
Expansion and services
After being founded 62 years ago, Blencowe expanded into a specialist scaffolding company in 2014. It then served commercial and domestic clients across the UK and even overseas.
Its website states: "Blencowe Scaffolding provide scaffolding solutions for many major contractors, handling small to large projects in a range of sectors such as industrial works, refurbishment, new-build, decorating, roofing, retail development and much more."
The website adds: "We have a large portfolio of residential work and a reputation for providing a professional, safe and speedy service. We provide domestic scaffolding for re-roofing, guttering and fascias, chimney stacks, loft conversions and extensions, decorating and refurbishment, solar panel installation and much more."
Heritage and staffing
The company also highlights its work on heritage projects: "Preserving the past to secure the future. We retain a committed team of professionals to work on specialist projects, who have built up extensive experience and knowledge of heritage and listed projects."
The head office in Salisbury employs a team of senior directors and estimating staff. The company also employs local scaffolders and other office staff at other sites. It says on its website: "We operate within a 60 miles radius from each of our depots in Salisbury, Basingstoke and Eastleigh."
