Arsenal have made their stance clear on Riccardo Calafiori by slapping a minimum £86 million price tag on the Italian defender, effectively ending Real Madrid's pursuit. Sporting director Andrea Berta has set the valuation high, making a move unlikely for Los Blancos given their already stretched transfer budget.
Real Madrid's Transfer Constraints
Real Madrid have already spent significant funds this summer, including a £52 million deal for Marc Cucurella and a £78 million bid for Manchester City's Ruben Dias. The potential arrival of Ibrahima Konate on a free transfer from Liverpool, along with his wages, further reduces their financial flexibility. With £130 million committed should the Dias deal go through, Arsenal's asking price for Calafiori appears too steep, especially with other areas needing reinforcement.
Alternative Targets for Real Madrid
Real Madrid may now shift focus to strengthening their midfield and attack. Potential targets include Scott McTominay of Napoli, Nico Paz from Como (with a £51 million buyback clause), Bayern Munich's Michael Olise, Lille's Ayyoub Boaddi, Nordsjælland's Caleb Yirenkyi, Freiburg's Johan Manzambi, and Chelsea's Enzo Fernandez. Any sale of Aurelien Tchouameni would likely be reinvested in a direct replacement rather than funding other moves.
Arsenal's Transfer Activity
Arsenal have yet to complete any summer business but are expected to trigger their £45 million option to make Piero Hincapie's loan from Bayer Leverkusen permanent. The Gunners are also linked with several players, including Newcastle United's Sandro Tonali (valued at over £100 million), Juventus' Kenan Yildiz, PSG's Bradley Barcola, and Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers.
