A flight attendant has shared her method for finding the best economy seats on a plane, explaining which seats to book and which ones to avoid for a more comfortable journey.
Expert advice from cabin crew
Cabin crew member Sandra Jennie Kwon, known as @jeenie.weenie on TikTok, posted a video detailing how she determined the superior seats in economy class. She said: "The first eliminate should be a no brainer - the middle seats suck. The back rows of every section do not recline."
She added: "I'm not a tall person, I don't need these emergency seats. There's also nowhere to store your personal belongings there. They also have those flimsy seats and tables - so let's scrap them."
Why the back of the plane can be better
Kwon explained how airlines automatically fill up the front of the plane first to help create "equal distribution", saying you're much more likely to have an empty seat on your row when sitting at the back. "For those odds, I prefer the back," she added.
She also advised avoiding seats near toilets: "Seats near a toilet really stink - I recommend a five row buffer just to be in the 'safe zone'."
Window seat versus aisle
Kwon eliminated window seats due to personal preference: "I hate asking people to move so I can use the toilet - and for that I eliminate all window [seats]."
She noted that meals are typically served front to back, so passengers at the front have a higher chance of getting their meal choice. However, she still prefers the back for the chance of an empty seat.
The ideal seat choice
Through her process of elimination, Kwon's ideal seat choice is seat 49 C/D/F/G. These are aisle or middle seats in the rear section, away from toilets and with potential for empty adjacent seats.
Responding to her clip, one viewer wrote: "No! Now people will rush to these seats and they'll become more expensive than business class." A second added: "I was listening up until you scrapped the window seat." A third said: "The amount of people that'll be fighting for seats 49 C/D/F/G after watching this... omg." While another person added: "Me taking notes even though I probably won't be on a plane for another year."
