Alejandro Garnacho has been left off Chelsea's 'not for sale list' less than a year after joining the club from Manchester United, according to The Athletic. The 22-year-old winger is not available for loan, and Chelsea are only open to a permanent exit after an underwhelming debut season.
Underwhelming Debut Season at Chelsea
Garnacho made 43 appearances in his first season at Stamford Bridge but failed to secure a regular starting role under managers Enzo Maresca or Liam Rosenior. With new boss Xabi Alonso taking over, the Argentine appears to have little chance of breaking into the first team. Chelsea have already added Geovany Quenda, who is undergoing individual training at Cobham ahead of the squad's return later this week, increasing competition for places.
Manchester United's Sell-On Clause Could Pay Off
Manchester United sold Garnacho for £40 million last summer after a falling out with then-manager Ruben Amorim, which led to his exclusion from the squad. However, United negotiated a 10% sell-on clause as part of the deal. If Chelsea sell Garnacho, United could receive a significant financial boost. Garnacho remains under contract with Chelsea until 2032, but the club is willing to part ways, though no club-to-club discussions have begun yet.
Other Potential Windfalls for United
Garnacho is not the only former United player who could generate additional funds. Mason Greenwood, who left for Marseille, is reportedly a target for Roma, with United entitled to up to 50% of any future fee. Roma is said to be preparing a €45 million (£38.6 million) offer. Additionally, Facundo Pellistri, sold to Panathinaikos in August 2024, could trigger a 50% sell-on clause if Hull City secures his transfer.
