E.ON Next has confirmed that 565,000 customers have already received the £150 Warm Home Discount towards their winter electricity bills. The company has started applying the support automatically to eligible accounts as part of the 2026/27 scheme, with further payments due over the coming months.
Payments to continue until March 2027
The £150 discount is provided as a one-off credit towards electricity costs and is available to eligible households across Scotland, England and Wales. However, the eligibility rules are different in Scotland, where some customers must apply directly to their energy supplier.
E.ON Next confirmed on Thursday that payments will continue until the end of March 2027 as it receives further details of eligible customers from the Government and identifies households qualifying under Scotland's Broader Group.
The energy supplier provided more than £140 million in support through the Warm Home Discount scheme last winter, helping over 800,000 customers.
Who qualifies for the £150 Warm Home Discount?
In Scotland, the scheme is divided into two groups, known as the Core Group and Broader Group. People in the Core Group may qualify automatically if they receive certain means-tested benefits, including Pension Credit or Universal Credit, depending on their circumstances.
Eligible households in the Core Group will be contacted by the beginning of January 2027. However, people who qualify under Scotland's Broader Group must apply directly to their energy supplier.
E.ON Next advises that its Broader Group includes people receiving certain benefits, which may include:
- Adult Disability Payment or Pension Age Disability Payment
- Universal Credit
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
- Income Support
- Housing Benefit
- Council Tax Reduction due to disability or low income
Households with income below a certain threshold may also qualify. Receiving one of these benefits does not automatically guarantee an award under the Broader Group, as additional eligibility conditions may apply.
When will the £150 discount be paid?
E.ON Next confirmed that eligible customers will receive the discount between October 2026 and March 2027. For most households, the £150 will be credited directly to their electricity account, including those using Smart Pay As You Go meters. Customers with traditional prepayment meters will receive a top-up voucher to redeem instead.
People who believe they qualify under the Core Group but have not received a letter by the beginning of January 2027 should check the Government's Warm Home Discount guidance.
Additional help with energy bills
E.ON Next also highlighted additional support available to customers struggling with their energy costs. Its Energy Fund can provide financial assistance, replacement household appliances and help with energy debt, depending on individual circumstances.
The supplier also offers affordable repayment arrangements and access to the free Lightning Reach platform, which helps households identify grants, benefits and other financial support. Customers who need additional assistance managing their energy accounts can also ask about joining the Priority Services Register.
