Liverpool should consider alternative options at right-back next season, including a potential move for Arsenal's Ben White, if current players fail to impress new manager Andoni Iraola. That is the view of former Liverpool right-back Glen Johnson, who made 200 appearances for the club after joining from Portsmouth in 2009.
Since Trent Alexander-Arnold left for Real Madrid a year ago, Liverpool have used seven different players at right-back under Arne Slot. Conor Bradley suffered a serious knee injury in January, ruling him out for the rest of the season, while summer signing Jeremie Frimpong had his own injury issues and lacked consistency.
Slot also experimented with Dominik Szoboszlai, Curtis Jones, Wataru Endo, and Joe Gomez in the role, while Calvin Ramsey made one appearance there in the Carabao Cup. Bradley's return date is unknown, leaving Iraola to decide whether to bring in reinforcements. One option could be a surprise bid for Arsenal's Ben White, who made 32 appearances last season but faces competition from Jurrien Timber.
Speaking to Bet St George, Johnson said: "Ben White to Liverpool? I guess it depends on the Arsenal situation. If they view him as their number one right-back, I don't imagine he'd leave the champions."
Johnson also addressed Frimpong's form: "I haven't seen a great deal defensively or going forward from Jeremie Frimpong. I think it's just been okay. He needs to decide what sort of player he wants to be and focus on it. At the minute, it's kind of like six out of ten at everything. If you want to be Liverpool's right back, that's not good enough."
Frimpong joined Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen last summer for £29.5 million after winning the Bundesliga under Xabi Alonso. He was omitted from the Netherlands squad for the World Cup.
