Carrick unsure on Sesko return as Man Utd face triple blow

Michael Carrick has admitted he has no idea when Benjamin Sesko could return to contention for Manchester United. The Slovenian striker withdrew from international duty last month after suffering a shin injury.

He had previously been ruled out of United's draw with Fulham before the international break. It is the second injury on his leg that Sesko has suffered since arriving at Old Trafford from RB Leipzig, having missed three months last term.

Carrick unsure on recovery timeline

While Carrick has assured that he has not aggravated that issue, he is still unsure over when Sesko might return to action. Speaking ahead of his side's Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur this weekend, the United boss said: "It's not the exact issue, it's a similar area, but it's not the exact same thing again.

"We're kind of still working through it a little bit to see how long the issue will be. We're hoping that it'll be soon, obviously, but at this moment it's still not quite clear."

Dorgu and Mazraoui also doubts

Sesko, 23, has made 38 appearances in all for United since his arrival, scoring 14 goals. The forward might not be the only absentee for the Red Devils this weekend.

Defender Patrick Dorgu looks set to be ruled out, while Noussair Mazraoui also looks likely to be restricted to the sidelines after picking up an issue while on international duty with Morocco. "Patrick came off and looks like he'll be out for probably a number of weeks," Carrick added. "Nous came off and took a knock. He's not quite right yet, so we'll have to see how he is."

Positive news for United

Despite those blows, there could be positives for United this weekend. Summer signing Carlos Baleba could be given his debut following his switch from Brighton, while Amad, Marcus Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo all look likely to be in contention.

Carrick said: "Carlos has improved, he's trained a lot. Amad's done a little bit of training, Marcus [Rashford] has done a little bit of training, Kobbie [Mainoo] has done a little bit of training. So, a little bit mixed really between the group."

Following Saturday evening's clash with Spurs, United will then turn their attention to their Champions League trip to Spain as they take on La Liga giants Atletico Madrid. Their next Premier League assignment pits them against rivals Leeds United at Elland Road next Sunday.
