Aberdeen Transfer Budget Revealed: Stephen Robinson Eyes More Signings
Aberdeen Transfer Budget: Robinson Eyes More Signings

Aberdeen have made a seven-figure transfer budget available for manager Stephen Robinson this summer, as the club aims to strengthen its squad for a competitive domestic campaign. The Dons board, led by chairman Dave Cormack, has provided funds to back Robinson after he was headhunted from St Mirren to safeguard the club's top-flight status last season.

Seven Summer Signings Already Secured

Aberdeen have already completed seven signings this summer, including a six-figure fee paid to Brentford for winger Tony Yogane. The other arrivals are Lewis Mayo, Brad Lyons, Daniel Happe, Toyosi Olusanya, Alexander Briedl, and Connor Ronan. Additionally, the club has handed new contracts to youngsters Findlay Marshall, Alfie Bavidge, and Alfie Stewart.

Robinson indicated at the end of last season that he would need to sell players to generate funds, but the board has made early transfer money available to get business done quickly. The club aims to sell several existing squad members, with Nicolas Milanovic, Marko Lazetic, and Ante Palaversa among those who could generate transfer fees.

Building Strength and Depth

Robinson wants to assemble a squad with two to three players for every position, focusing on a British spine and mentality. Without the distraction of European football this season, Aberdeen plans to use that to their advantage in domestic competitions.

The club has revamped its scouting department, with sporting director Lutz Pfannenstiel and head of recruitment Darren Mowbray working extensively on the road, combining analytics with in-person player assessments. This follows a heavy spending spree last summer after winning the Scottish Cup, which did not yield value for money and ultimately cost Jimmy Thelin his job.

Coaching Changes and Youth Development

Robinson has brought in Stephen Craigan as a first-team coach, tasked with transitioning young academy talent into the first team. Craigan previously held a similar role at Motherwell, where he helped develop players like Lennon Miller and David Turnbull.

According to a report by Scott Burns, the Dons board has again made sure funds are available to back their manager, with the aim of making Aberdeen competitive again on the domestic front. Further funds have been made available, and the club is likely to make another two or three signings before the window closes.
