Ryder Cup Organisers Defend Ticket Prices After Backlash Over Hike
Ryder Cup Defends Ticket Prices After Backlash

Ryder Cup organisers have defended the ticket prices for the 2027 edition at Adare Manor in Ireland, despite a significant hike that has sparked backlash from fans and insiders. Daily general admission tickets for the three tournament days have been set at £434 (€499), nearly double the €260 charged four years ago at Marco Simone in Italy. This marks a record high for a European edition of the event, though it remains below the £555 ($750) charged at Bethpage Black in the United States last year.

Organisers Defend Pricing

Richard Atkinson, the European Tour Group's chief Ryder Cup officer, defended the pricing structure in an interview with the BBC. He acknowledged the increase from Rome but emphasised that four years have passed and much has changed globally. "We've tried to make this as accessible as possible to a wide demographic of people," he said, noting that practice day tickets start at €89 and junior tickets from €20. Atkinson stressed that the prices are proportionate to a global sporting event, adding, "This event has grown in stature and profile; it's one of the biggest sporting events in the world."

Fan Experience and Demand

Atkinson expressed confidence that fans will get their money's worth, highlighting the extensive entertainment programme and over 20,000 grandstand seats at Adare Manor, a record for any European Ryder Cup. He also revealed that over half a million people have registered interest in tickets, indicating strong demand. "This is likely to be one of the largest events to come to the island of Ireland," he added.

Backlash from Caddie

However, not everyone is pleased. Justin Rose's caddie, Mark Fulcher, criticised the pricing on social media, calling it "extortionately high" and lamenting the trend of "bleeding true fans dry." He noted that tickets are twice the price of the Italy edition four years ago, describing it as "a sad day."

The 2027 Ryder Cup will be the centenary edition of the event, with Europe defending its title after the 2025 match at Bethpage Black.
