Mason Mount is a doubt for Manchester United's pre-season fixture against Leeds United as he continues to recover from a foot injury.
Mount, 27, was substituted in the 20th minute of Saturday's 1-1 draw with Paris Saint-Germain in Gothenburg, Sweden after picking up a knock. He was replaced as a precaution and was spotted leaving the stadium unassisted.
Training setback
However, the former Chelsea midfielder was unable to train on Monday or Tuesday and is not expected to feature in United's game against Premier League rivals Leeds at Croke Park, Dublin on Wednesday evening, as per ESPN.
It's the latest injury concern for Mount, who has made just 72 appearances in three years since signing for United in a £55million deal in 2023. Indeed, Mount has almost missed as many matches as he has played during his time at Old Trafford, having sat out of 70 competitive games since the start of the 2023/24 season.
Carrick's caution
Speaking after Mount sustained the knock against PSG, United head coach Michael Carrick said: "He got kicked. We just wanted to be careful and look after him. We’ve been lucky with injuries so far, so we wanted to be careful."
Meanwhile, Lisandro Martinez has joined up with Carrick's squad in Ireland after being granted an extended break following Argentina's run to the World Cup final. Marcus Rashford, who enjoyed a successful loan spell at Barcelona last season, has taken part in training sessions after returning to Carrington on Sunday.
Pre-season schedule
United have just two pre-season clashes remaining ahead of their Premier League curtain-raiser with a newly-promoted Hull City come August 22. They face Leeds and then Ruben Amorim's AC Milan three days later.
It has been a fruitful summer for United as they have bolstered the engine room following Casemiro's departure at the end of his contract and Manuel Ugarte's serious knee injury. Andrey Santos came through the doors in a £48m move from Chelsea before Youri Tielemans joined for £35m from Aston Villa.
There has been rumours that a third midfielder could follow. The Reds are thought to be monitoring the situation of AS Monaco's Lamine Camara at present, although with the 22-year-old under contract until 2029, negotiations could be difficult.
Other options include Everton's Iliman Ndiaye and Real Madrid's Aurelien Tchouameni, although any hopes of successfully securing the latter seem slim to none, as he is set on remaining in the Spanish capital.
