Kobbie Mainoo has agreed terms on a new Manchester United contract, with the 21-year-old midfielder set to commit his future to the club until June 2031. The England international has been a key figure under interim head coach Michael Carrick, delivering a string of impressive performances in the second half of the season.
Mainoo's Rise Under Carrick
Mainoo has been a near ever-present since Carrick's return to Old Trafford, featuring in 12 of the last 13 matches. His only absence came due to a minor injury. He has forged a formidable midfield partnership with Casemiro, helping United embark on a run of nine wins and two draws, propelling the club to third in the Premier League table.
Contract Details
According to reporter Fabrizio Romano, Mainoo has 'agreed all terms' on a contract understood to run until June 2031. The midfielder is in line for a pay rise, with United expected to make the agreement official before the end of the 2025/26 campaign. It is suggested that Mainoo could sign the deal within the next few days, becoming the latest United player to pledge his long-term future to the club, following Harry Maguire's new one-year deal with an option for a further 12 months.
Carrick's Praise
Mainoo delivered another impressive display in Monday's 2-1 victory over Brentford, with Carrick praising the youngster after the match. "I thought on the back of the Chelsea game, where he was particularly good and showed similar things, with a bit of everything," Carrick said. "His build-up play, his taking of the ball, his creation and starting the attacks. He's so effective with that. But definitely, his duels, his 1v1s, recovery runs and back-tackling - over the last two games he's taken that up a level. It's great to see that he can do it."
Champions League Push
Monday's victory over Brentford left United 11 points clear of sixth-placed Brighton in the battle for Champions League qualification. Mainoo and his teammates return to action when they host Liverpool on Sunday. Victory would secure their place in the 2026/27 Champions League campaign.
