Iran War May Lead to UK Job Losses, Minister Says

Work and Pensions Secretary Pat McFadden has warned that the economic shock from the Iran war could lead to job losses in Britain over the course of the year. The potential job losses are attributed to the continued closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital oil shipping route, which has driven up global energy prices.

McFadden stated that the UK economy was improving before the war, with falling unemployment and expected interest rate cuts, but this positive outlook is now uncertain. Donald Trump announced that the US would pause efforts to guide stranded vessels out of the Strait of Hormuz to pursue a peace deal with Iran, while maintaining a blockade of Iranian ports.

US officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, insisted that for peace, Iran must agree to demands on its nuclear programme and reopen the Strait, with the White House criticising allies for their response to the crisis.
