A man has been charged after allegedly stabbing another driver during a road rage argument over the use of a turn signal in Racine, Wisconsin. The incident occurred on April 23, according to a criminal complaint.
The victim told police he was leaving North Beach with his girlfriend when another driver cut him off. The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Chad Norton, allegedly shouted, “Don’t you know how to use your f*****g turn signal,” before threatening to beat the victim.
Both men exited their vehicles and a physical altercation ensued. The victim said he threw several punches but did not see a knife until he returned to his car and realised he had been stabbed. Police later obtained video showing Norton making stabbing motions.
The victim drove himself to Ascension All Saints Hospital, where officers observed puncture wounds and lacerations to his chest and arm requiring stitches. Norton was taken into custody and told police he did not remember brandishing a knife, claiming he was “trying to get him away from me”.
Norton has been charged with aggravated battery and first-degree recklessly endangering safety, both with a dangerous weapon. His bond was set at $5,000, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for 29 April. If convicted, he faces more than 15 years in prison for the aggravated battery charge alone.
