A road rage dispute over a turn signal escalated into a violent stabbing in Racine, Wisconsin, according to police and court documents. The incident occurred on April 23 when a driver accused another of cutting him off without signaling.
Argument Turns Physical
The victim told officers he was leaving North Beach with his girlfriend when another driver cut them off. The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Chad Norton, allegedly shouted, “Don’t you know how to use your f*****g turn signal,” according to a criminal complaint obtained by FOX6. The victim later pulled up next to Norton, who allegedly threatened, “I’m going to beat your a**.”
Both men exited their vehicles, and the argument quickly turned physical. The victim admitted to asking Norton to “hop out” and throwing several punches during a brief fight lasting a few seconds, as reported by FOX6.
Stabbing and Arrest
The victim did not see a knife but realized he had been stabbed upon returning to his car. Police responded to Ascension All Saints Hospital just before 7 p.m. after the victim drove himself there. Officers observed multiple puncture wounds and lacerations to his chest and arm, requiring stitches. A video provided to police showed Norton making stabbing motions, according to the complaint.
When taken into custody, Norton claimed he did not recall brandishing a knife and said he was “trying to get him away from me.” He has been charged with aggravated battery and first-degree recklessly endangering safety, both with a dangerous weapon, according to online court records. His bond was set at $5,000, and a preliminary hearing was scheduled for April 29. If convicted, Norton could face more than 15 years in prison for the aggravated battery charge alone. The Racine County District Attorney's Office has been contacted for comment.
