Camavinga to Man Utd move dead as star stays at Real Madrid

Eduardo Camavinga’s proposed move to Manchester United appears to be dead in the water, with the Frenchman set to stay at Real Madrid. Camavinga has been linked with a move to the Old Trafford outfit, with United keen to bolster their midfield options this summer.

United's midfield search

They’ve already made some progress to doing just that, with Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos having put pen to paper on deals with the club. However, it’s mooted United could still look to add another new midfielder to their ranks, with Camavinga said to have been among the options.

The chances of this happening have been slashed though, as according to Fabrizio Romano, neither Real Madrid nor Camavinga himself want to part ways. It comes after the record European champions were snubbed by Rodri, with Los Blancos opting to stick with what they’ve got, as opposed to chasing an alternative target.

Camavinga's decision

That’s bad news for United, who have admired Camavinga since his days as a Rennes player. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano remarked: “Many questions I’ve received in recent days were about Eduardo Camavinga, whether there’s still a possibility for United or for other clubs.”

He went on to admit that United had been in contact with Camavinga’s agent to explore the possibility of getting a deal done this summer. Romano continued: “But the answer Camavinga is giving to all the clubs, United and those interested before United has always been the same – Camavinga wants to stay at Real Madrid.

“He wants to continue at Real Madrid and is not changing his mind. And so as of today there are no changes and he insists on staying at Real Madrid. And now with Rodri not joining Real Madrid, Camavinga is even more motivated to stay and continue trying to convince Jose Mourinho.”

Other targets

United still remain on the lookout for a market opportunity in midfield, should one present itself. Aurelien Tchouameni is considered the dream target for INEOS, but much like his Real Madrid and international team-mate, the French star is deemed off limits.

Manu Kone, Carlos Baleba and Sander Berge are considered more realistic targets, but little progress has been made towards any potential deals. United’s Premier League campaign gets underway a week on Saturday when they make the trip to Hull City.
