A burnt-out British woman who cried every day at work has moved to Australia and claims her salary has doubled. Wynter Yeomans, 26, from Nottingham, relocated to Sydney with her partner Luke Richards in February 2025 seeking a better work-life balance. Within three months, she secured a marketing job earning £48,000 ($90,500 AUD), up from her previous £25,000 salary in the UK.
A New Life Down Under
Wynter said she no longer 'lives for the weekend' and now enjoys evenings at the beach or BBQs with friends. 'In the UK, you live for the weekends. Here, people are out most weekdays,' she explained. She pays $1,500 (£795) in rent but finds other expenses like coffee and food cheaper than in the UK.
Mental Health Struggles
After travelling in Southeast Asia in 2022, Wynter struggled to readjust to UK life. 'The first six months back were a dark place,' she said. Her corporate job left her stressed and crying daily, even causing rashes. 'It was cold and dark when I drove to and from work. No one I worked with had a good work-life balance.'
Advice for Others
Wynter warns that moving abroad isn't as easy as social media suggests. 'It took me three months to get a job. It's scary picking up your whole life, but you can always go back home.' She encourages others to trust the process and consider the move for better opportunities.
