BBC viewers have just days left to watch a 'masterpiece' Colin Firth film with an impressive 94% Rotten Tomatoes score. Released in 2011, The King's Speech sees King George VI as he tries to overcome his stammering problem with the help of speech therapist Lionel Logue and makes himself worthy enough to lead his country through World War II.

Film Details and Cast

The film was written by David Seidler, who also wrote the stage version for the story, and directed by Tom Hooper. In the historical drama, Colin Firth, 65, plays the future King George VI, who attempts to overcome his stammering problem and sees Australian speech and language therapist Lionel Logue, played by Geoffrey Rush. Also starring in the film are Helena Bonham Carter as Queen Elizabeth, Guy Pearce as King Edward VIII, Timothy Spall as Winston Churchill, and Derek Jacobi as Cosmo Gordon Lang.

Awards and Critical Acclaim

The King's Speech has received rave reviews and swept the awards at the Oscars in 2011. The movie won the following Academy Awards: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor for Colin Firth, and Best Original Screenplay.
