The SkyFall Tower, a 262ft (80m) free-fall drop tower, has appeared overnight on Roald Dahl Plass in Cardiff Bay, becoming the tallest travelling ride of its kind in the UK. The structure towers over the surrounding area and offers thrill-seekers a rotating ascent with panoramic views of Cardiff and the Bay before a 75mph drop.
Ride Details and Opening
The ride opens to the public on Saturday, July 18, as part of the Cardiff Bay Family Fun Park, located in front of Wales Millennium Centre and next to Mermaid Quay. According to organisers, the SkyFall Tower rotates on the way up, giving riders a full view of Cardiff and the Bay, and then drops at around 75mph. They advise against eating a massive ice cream beforehand.
Family Attractions and Entertainment
For those who prefer less intense experiences, the fun park offers classic fairground attractions including dodgems, a funhouse, runaway train, and water walkers. Younger children can enjoy slower-paced rides, and the whole family can try game stalls for a chance to win large cuddly toys.
Free family entertainment includes magic shows, princess sing-a-longs, and character meet and greets. At Mermaid Quay's Tacoma Square, six weeks of free nature-inspired activities run every Thursday from July 23 to August 27, featuring storytelling, creative crafts, and hands-on activities focused on wildlife, biodiversity, and the environment. Each week has a new theme, such as bug hotels and finger puppets.
