Wimbledon Evian Water Price Shocks Visitors: £5 Refill Bottle Sparks Debate

Wimbledon has returned for its third round today (July 4), and with warm temperatures this weekend, spectators are seeking ways to stay hydrated. A recent post on social media has ignited a debate over the cost of water at the prestigious tennis event.

Visitor Discovers Evian Refill Scheme

One man queued for a bottle of Evian at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club and discovered a feature that left many social media users astonished. He shared his experience on X, formerly Twitter, where the post garnered over one million views.

The caption read: "Cool feature at Wimbledon: £5 for an Evian bottled water that they will keep refilling for you (with Evian) for free all day (or the next day or next year)." The post, shared by Daniel Roberts on June 30, 2026, quickly attracted a flood of responses.

Mixed Reactions from Social Media Users

Reactions ranged from criticism to approval. One user commented: "Should be free, especially in this heat." Another sarcastically added: "Cool. And it's only £5,000,000 for a bowl of strawberries and cream." Someone jokingly suggested: "Cool feature, buy the bottle at Asda for £1 and take it in." While some called it a scam, others defended the system. A social media user posted: "Pretty good deal considering UK prices." To which another agreed: "Actually this is the best ever for a water company!"

Evian's Partnership with Wimbledon Since 2008

Evian has been the Official Water of The Championships, Wimbledon since 2008, with a partnership secured through at least 2027. The agreement includes providing on-court and grounds hydration for both players and spectators. As part of a joint sustainability initiative, Evian introduced reusable bottle systems and refill stations several years ago.

How the Refill Scheme Works

Fans can purchase an exclusive, reusable Evian bottle for £5, which allows them unlimited refills of chilled Evian natural mineral water from designated stations around the venue. A stainless steel reusable bottle is also available for £25. Players receive a specialised on-court refillable water system, first piloted and introduced in 2023.

This initiative aims to reduce single-use plastic waste at the tournament, aligning with broader environmental goals. The £5 bottle cost covers the reusable container itself, with free refills encouraging repeated use throughout the event and beyond.
