Wetherspoon, the popular pub chain known for its affordable food and drink, has seen many menu items come and go since its founding in 1979. Some discontinued dishes have sparked fan campaigns for their return, while others are less missed.
Among the forgotten offerings was Mexican Monday, which allowed customers to build their own burritos, nachos or naked burritos with fillings such as Quorn chilli, barbecue pulled pork, rib-eye steak or chicken breast strips. The deal, priced at £5.49 with a soft drink or £6.49 with alcohol, ended in 2017 and was replaced by the Small Plates Deal.
The Sunday Club, which featured roast dinners with hand-carved meats, roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and gravy, was another casualty. It was available for £8.09 with a drink and ran until Mother's Day 2016. A chicken chow mein dish, served briefly from 2016 to 2017, was poorly received, with one Reddit user describing it as 'horrific' and 'pure mush'.
A Five Guys-inspired burger wrapped in tinfoil with onion rings and chips proved popular, but its introduction led to the removal of the entire hot dog selection. Fans started a petition to bring back the hot dogs, which included a traditional option, a barbecue pulled pork version and a chilli cheese dog. One enthusiast said: 'Still mourning the loss of the pulled pork hogdog.'
More recently, in May 2024, Wetherspoon removed steaks and the mixed grill from its menu, along with the Tuesday Club steak deal. These have been replaced by gourmet burgers such as The Big Smoke and Buffalo.
